It is something everybody needs to do. It is so nice. Because of my class load this semester I have to work less than have had to the past 2 years. And let me tell you, when I don't have homework, my bed feels SO good to just cuddle up in and fall quietly asleep. Even though I really don't have the most comfortable mattress in the world, I can always just decide to take a quick nap without any trouble.
As a college student, I really probably don't get as much sleep as i should, nor as much as i would like, but it is always a good feeling at the end of a long, hard day to lay your head down upon that pillow and just release the cares and worries for the day.
Today was a very nice day outside, It was mildly warm, with a tinge of a cool breeze. As i sat in my Visual Language of the Moving Image class (READ: how to make movies not suck) we have been watching the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" with Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, and it really made me sad. I miss the more "simple" times. That is not to say that the times were all that simple, because we all know the injustices that were abundant in those days, such as the question of equality among the races (when we know that there is only one TRUE race; the human race.)But just the whole being able to take time for the simple things, such as shelling peas.
When i was a kid, my grandmother used to spend the early fall season canning peas, okra, and other various fresh-picked vegetables from Rodger's Farm, where we had generally spent the day picking those things that we planned to put away for the season. Shucking corn was such a delight as a kid, and when i worked as produce in Publix, I took pride in being able to help people shuck their own corn and giving them advice upon the flavors of the different kinds. If i could take a time machine back, I think i would move to the mid-50s. It was after the great depression, and before Vietnam (our first REAL pointless war.)
Well, ill save the rest of this for another day. I am off to go watch The Office on TV. I think it is going to be a good episode.
(more on the fallacy of TV later)
